Using the Camera Downloader

Top  Previous  Next

Use the Camera Downloader to transfer your images from the camera (or other input source) to your hard drive and get the images into your catalog.

The Downloader allows you to select images, physically copy the files, store them in a file structure of your preference, rename them to your preference format, organize them in your galleries/collections and even catalog them during transfer. Once you have stepped through the Downloader wizard, the rest of the processing is automated.

The Downloader can read images from not only a digital camera, but also from other digital imaging sources like a WIA devices, TWAIN devices, e-mail boxes, or existing folders. In particular the following input sources are supported

Digital camera

This can be done in two ways. The first way is through a memory card reader and the second way is through a directly connected camera where the camera is attached to the computer using a cable.

Scanner

This too can be done in two ways:  either through a TWAIN connection or by using a PTP connection. The latter is the most commonly used  method when using modern day scanners.

Email boxes

Again this can be done in two ways. The first way is by enumerating images from a POP3 connection, and the second way is from an IMAP4 connection. POP3 boxes are commonly used for internet e-mail, while IMAP4 boxes are commonly used in a business environment.

Folder

Read from a physical folder on disk.
